SELLERS PARADISE

Neil Patel is one of the top influencers on the web, and a master marketer.  You may have heard of him, or his company, Neil Patel Digital.

He’s been marketing for 18 years, so he’s reached this top spot through hard work, failures, experience and applying what he’s learned.  Neil is not an overnight success, and so you can imagine he has a lot of valuable wisdom to share.

This week we thought we’d do exactly that; share his 34 Marketing Principles (don’t worry, it’s not as long of a read as it sounds), so you can get some insight into the successful actions of a marketing master …

TIPS & TRICKS

Problem: Creating a repeat buyer list from Customers > Generate Report for a single SKU will give you repeat buyers who purchased that SKU even once.  The issue being that it will give you repeat buyer of something, but not necessarily exclusively repeat buyers of THAT one SKU. For example, you have two products: A and B.  the customer buys B twice and A once. You run the report and he comes up as a repeat buyer (of anything) and the product you’ve filtered on in the report: A.

Solution: Here’s a way to weed out the wheat from the chaff in Excel.

First, in your MBS, under Customers > Generate Report, create a customer list report that is:

  • Exclusively one SKU
  • No Refunds (unless you don’t care)
  • Repeat buyers only

Once you’ve done that:

  • Open in the generated CSV file in Excel
  • Highlight column C (# of Orders Placed) and column D (#different products) and apply filters (see image below)
  • Click the filter icon for column C and select everything BUT 1 order qty
  • Click the filter icon for column D and select only 1 different products

This will produce the list you’re looking for:  Repeat Buyers of that one product/SKU.

HUMOR

A multi-millionaire living in Darwin, Australia, decided to throw a party and invited all of his buddies and neighbours, including a self-proclaimed survivalist, named Brian.

The rich guy held the party around the giant pool in the backyard of his mansion. Everyone was having a good time drinking, dancing, eating prawns and oysters from the barby.

Then, at the height of the party, the millionaire said, “I have a 15-foot man-eating crocodile in my pool and I’ll give a million dollars to anyone who’ll join him in the pool.”

The words were barely out of his mouth when there was a loud splash.

Everyone turned and saw Brian in the pool fighting madly with the crocodile, jabbing it in the eyes with his thumbs, throwing punches, head butting it, getting it in choke holds, biting its tail and flipping it through the air like some kind of martial arts expert.

The water was churning and splashing everywhere. Both Brian and the crocodile were screaming and thrashing like mad.

Finally, after what seemed like an age, the frothing bubbles cleared and … the guests watched in astonishment as the crocodile floated to the top of the pool, belly-up, like a dead goldfish.

An exhausted Brian wearily climbed out of the pool with everybody staring at him in disbelief.

The millionaire said, “Well, Brian, I reckon I owe you a million dollars then.”

“Nah, you alright boss, I don’t want it,” said Brian.

So the millionaire said, “Man, I have to give you something. You won the bet. How about half-a-million bucks?”

“No thanks, I don’t want it,” Brian insisted.

The millionaire said, “Come on, I have to give you something. That was amazing. How about a new Porsche, a Rolex and some stock options?”

Once again Brian said, “No.”

Confused, the rich man asked, “Well, Brian, then what do you want?”

Brian looked around, glaring at the crowd of onlookers.  “I want the jerk who pushed me in.”
